Cholestech Corp. has received a "moderately complex"classification from the Department of Health and HumanServices (HHS) for total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol andtriglycerides on the Cholestech LDX cholesterol measuring

Under the clinical laboratory improvement amendments of1988 (CLIA'88), categorization of laboratory test systems isrequired by the HHS under one of three levels of classification:waived, moderately complex, and highly complex.

According to the company, the classification, effective fromSept. 1, is consistent with its current product development,manufacturing and marketing plans. Cholestech of Hayward,Calif., is involved in the development of point-of-carediagnostic systems for measuring blood cholesterol and relatedlipids.
