The Research Development Corporation of Japan and MichiganState University (MSU) have completed an agreement to fund a$15 million joint molecular biology research project. Theproject, which is to be run through the National ScienceFoundation's Science and Technology Center on MicrobialEcology at MSU, is expected to have biotechnological spin-offs,including the development of microbes for clearing up oil spills,said NSF spokesman Jim Edwards. During the course of thefive-year project, four American scientists will work in Japanand four Japanese scientists in the United States. -- RachelNowak
