Medtronic’s GI Genius in study for detecting adenomas during colonoscopy

A 2,000-patient U.K. study has been set up to generate real-world evidence of the value of using AI technology to detect bowel polyps (adenomas) during colonoscopy procedures. The aim is to show whether Medtronic plc’s GI Genius system improves the detection of polyps when deployed in both expert centers and non-specialist units, in the routine diagnostic screening of patients referred from primary care or through the national fecal immunochemical testing program.

Biobeat Technologies Ltd. reported its remote patient monitoring system received FDA clearance to monitor respiratory rate and body temperature. The wireless chest and wrist monitoring device is already cleared for cuffless blood pressure monitoring, blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate. The artificial intelligence platform utilizes a photoplethysmography-based sensor at the surface of the skin that measures volumetric variations of blood circulation.

Much of the question of FDA regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is seen as revolving around changes to the statute, but that does not mean the FDA and other agencies are in wait-and-see mode. Resapp reports positive results for cough-based COVID-19 screening test for smartphones

Resapp Health Ltd. saw its stock shoot up 35% on the heels of positive clinical results for its new smartphone-based COVID-19 screening test. In a pilot clinical trial of 741 patients recruited in the U.S. and India, digital health company Resapp’s screening test, which uses machine learning to analyze the sound of a patient’s cough, correctly detected COVID-19 in 92% of people with the infection.

Oculogica, Minnetronix ink deal to launch concussion diagnostics device

This model was validated in an observational multicohort study in Europe, the U.S. and South America, as well as randomized trials and results were published in The Lancet Digital Health.

Cvaid Medical Ltd. secured $4 million in a series A financing to further develop its mobile stroke diagnostic, monitoring and treatment platform. The Israeli Rad Biomed investment fund led the round with participation from Philips Ventures and Sanara Capital. As part of the financing, a representative from Philips will join the board. The smartphone-based system, Cvaid uses artificial intelligence to process and analyze video and voice recordings to identify and assess the severity of patients experiencing stroke, also called cerebrovascular accidents.

PARIS – Ziwig SAS has developed the Endotest saliva test, for quickly detecting endometriosis. François Golfier, head of the gynecology-obstetrics department at Angers University Hospital and chairman of the endometriosis committee for the National College of French Gynecologists and Obstetricians, claims this new generation of in vitro diagnostic medical devices is going to be a game-changer “as it finally allows this chronic debilitating disease to be detected sooner and within the space of just a few days.”
