Magstim Co. Ltd. reported that the U.S. FDA cleared its Magstim Rapid magnetic stimulation system for the treatment of chronic pain. The clearance provides a clinically validated therapy that directly targets neural pathways involved in pain processing to deliver a non-invasive, drug-free treatment for chronic pain.
The U.S. FDA granted Neuronetics Inc. clearance for use of its Neurostar advanced therapy as an adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder in patients aged 15 to 21, making it the first transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment (TMS) cleared for this age group, the company said.
The FDA has granted Magstim Co. Ltd. 510(k) clearance for its transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) platform Horizon 3.0. TMS is a series of repetitive, focused magnetic pulses, used to stimulate brain cells. The noninvasive therapy has been touted as a cost-effective treatment for depression and is typically prescribed when antidepressants have failed, or the side effects are too disruptive to a patient’s lifestyle.
