HemaCare Corp. (NASDAQ:HEMA) announced Monday that itswholly owned subsidiary, MD Laboratories Inc., has beenrenamed HemaBiologics Inc.

According to HemaCare's president and chief executive officer,Hal Lieberman, the name change is meant to eliminateconfusion caused by the previous name and "identify themission ... of HemaBiologics."

The subsidiary, based in Sherman Oaks, Calif., collects and sellsspecialty plasmas containing rare antibodies and antigens tomanufacturers of diagnostic laboratory test kits and humanvaccines. In addition, in association with HemaCare of LosAngeles, it has been obtaining anti-HIV plasma from donors forHemaCare's clinical testing and development of Immupath, abio-pharmaceutical product utilizing passive hyperimmunetherapy for treating AIDS.
