FDA SPURS INTEREST IN AGBIOInvestors focused on agbiotech issues Wednesday in a secondday of trading after the FDA announced a proposed policy oflimited regulation of genetically engineered foods.

Calgene Inc. (NASDAQ:CGNE) again was the most activebioscience stock, trading nearly 1.9 million shares. The stockwas off 13 cents to $15.25 after gaining $1.63 Tuesday, andDNA Plant Technology Corp. (NASDAQ:DNAP) was unchanged at$6.75. But Crop Genetics International Corp. (NASDAQ:CROP)moved up $1 to $7, adding to its 63-cent gain on Tuesday.

DeKalb Genetics Corp. (NASDAQ:SEEDB) jumped $1.75 to $31.75on tiny volume. Epitope Inc. (AMEX:EPT), parent of AgritopeInc., was off 50 cents to $19.13. Escagenetics Corp., which alsois engaged in food-related biotech, was down 13 cents to $9.

Other stocks were little changed. The AMEX BiotechnologyIndex gained 2.22 to 152.35.

Greenwich Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:GRPI) rebounded $1to $8.75 on 1.2 million shares traded. SyStemix Inc.(NASDAQ:STMX) tumbled $2 to $25.75, and Alza Corp.(AMEX:AZA) lost $1.75 to $43.75.
