The imaging and advanced guidance for workflow optimization in interventional oncology consortium (IMAGIO) consortium of clinical partners in the EU, led by Royal Philips NV, has been awarded $26 million under the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) to carry out research into less invasive cancer therapies.

EU's new innovation scheme invites more stakeholders to the table

LONDON – The EU’s third generation public-private research partnership in health formally got off the ground on Jan. 26, with a promise to invest €2.4 billion (US$2.7 billion) and back 30 large-scale, cross-sector innovation projects by 2030. The Innovative Health Initiative is the successor to the Innovative Medicines Initiatives 1 and 2, which between 2008 – 2020 put €5 billion into precompetitive research to accelerate translation of biomedical research to new drugs.

LONDON – The EU's next large-scale public-private research partnership in health is taking shape and due for launch at the start of 2021, succeeding the current €3.6 billion (US$4 billion) Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI2). The new program, the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), will see the scope of joint research among the industry, academics and SMEs expand beyond pharmaceuticals, to include medical technology, biotech, digital health and vaccines.
