The U.K.’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence is revisiting its policy for osteoporosis and may recommend that clinicians include vertebral fracture assessment with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry procedures.

Amber Implants BV reported promising results from the first-in-human trial of patients fitted with its Vcfix spinal system which treats vertebral compression fractures. Data showed that patients experienced significant pain relief and regained the ability to walk without discomfort.

Orthopedics device startup Amber Implants BV has received an FDA breakthrough designation for its cementless spinal implant Vcfix. The system is designed to treat vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), which can cause patients severe back pain and limited mobility. Currently, VCFs are treated with injection of bone cement into the vertebra.
