Medtronic plc posted nearly 50% year-over-year growth in its cardiac ablation business this quarter, with a 72% increase in revenue in the U.S., largely driven by pulsed field ablation. With significant opportunity in renal denervation and a new committee to look at growth including M&A and divestitures and another to review operations, analysts think the company stands a good chance of shedding its “chronic underperformer” image.

Medtronic plc received CE mark for its latest miniature, leadless pacemakers, the Micra AV2 and Micra VR2. According to the company, they are the world's smallest pacemakers, provide a longer battery life, and are easier to program than previous Micra pacemakers, while maintaining the benefits of their predecessors such as reduced complications compared to traditional pacemakers.

Sibionics Technology Co. Ltd. said it received the CE mark for its continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system, coined the Sibionics GS1 CGM, helping the company expand its market opportunities beyond China.

In another boost to its diabetes portfolio, Medtronic plc was granted CE mark approval for its Simplera continuous glucose monitor (CGM) sensor. The EU greenlight for Simplera follows the U.S. FDA approval for Medronic’s Minimed 780G insulin pump system earlier in the year. Simplera is an all-in-one disposable CGM sensor which features a two-step insertion process and will help patients who must have multiple daily injections (MDI) manage their diabetes.

Two tough years have taken a toll on Medtronic plc with a warning letter for its diabetes unit, a reorganization that will spin off its respiratory, patient care and renal groups and layoffs of an undisclosed number of employees that began last week. The announcement late Friday of the U.S. FDA approval of the Minimed 780G insulin pump system could be a turning point for the company that brings it back into the competition for the growing diabetes market.
