PARIS – Miracor Medical SA secured a $28 million series E funding round for its Pressure-controlled Intermittent Coronary Sinus Occlusion (PiCSO) impulse system, intended for treating patients presenting with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI). “This funding will be used to move the PiCSO clinical trial program forward, and to begin distributing our technology in Europe,” Olivier Delporte, CEO of Miracor, told BioWorld.
LONDON – Sleep disorder specialist Nyxoah SA hit the top end of its price range of €17 per share, raising €84.75 million (US$100) million in its initial public offering. Assuming full exercise of the over-allotment option, the company will have a market capitalization of €375.26 million. The shares began trading on Euronext Brussels (EBR:NYXH) on Sept. 18, and had a good first day, closing up 14.7%, at €19.50.
Oncomfort SA finalized a €10 million (US$11.8 million) series A fundraising round to further develop its Digital Sedation product and pursue international expansion. Debiopharm and Crédit Mutuel Innovation led the round with participation from Wallonia Innovation and Growth and previous investors.
PARIS – White Fund SA, of Lièges, Belgium, secured $22 million for early stage financing of Belgian med-tech companies. “Our shareholders are investing in a specialized fund [that], beyond financial returns, [creates] expectations in terms of supporting the strong med-tech ecosystem in Belgium and advantages in terms of job creation,” explained Benoît Fellin, investment manager at Noshaq SA, manager of the White Fund.
For biopharma, 2019 can be described as a terrific year – with a few asterisks. The financial markets were flourishing, with venture capital dollars, in particular, flowing to the sector, while dealmaking reached historic proportions. Meanwhile, scientific breakthroughs led the way as cell and gene therapies gained ground, the first signs of success emerged with new technologies like CRISPR and the long-awaited promise of genomics found its way to the front lines of health care.
