Sichuan Clover Biopharmaceuticals Inc. raised HK$2.03 billion (US$260.17 million) in its Hong Kong Stock Exchange debut. Shares closed at HK$12.98 (US$1.67) on Nov. 5 after trading as high as HK$13.56 earlier.

Fosun Pharmaceutical Group Co. Ltd. has acquired a 73% stake of Antejin Biotech Co. Ltd. in a merger and acquisition deal worth up to ¥4.006 billion (US$626.2 million) to expand its pipeline in the field of bacterial vaccines. To kick off, Shanghai-based Fosun purchased about 32.52% equity interest in Antejin from nine shareholders for about ¥1.108 billion in cash.

Japanese companies make headway in domestic vaccine R&D

The race for a Japan-made COVID-19 vaccine is heating up as players make progress with their trials. Daiichi Sankyo Co. Ltd. recently shared the results from its phase I/II trial for DS-5670, its mRNA vaccine. The mRNA vaccine candidate initiated studies in March 2021. The findings showed that in terms of immunogenicity, both neutralizing activity and IgG titer increased after the vaccination.

Baidu algorithm-based mRNA vaccine neutralizing antibody titer levels exceed benchmark sequence by up to 20x

Baidu Inc.’s preclinical studies showed the mRNA vaccine sequences for COVID-19 designed using its Lineardesign algorithm outperformed the benchmark sequences designed by traditional algorithms in terms of stability, protein expression and immunogenicity. The firm teamed up with Stemirna Therapeutics Co. Ltd., which specializes in the R&D of mRNA vaccines and drugs, to test seven mRNA COVID-19 vaccine sequences designed using Lineardesign.

TGA recognizes COVID-19 vaccines for travel purposes

In addition to the four COVID-19 vaccines it has provisionally approved, Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is recommending that two more vaccines – Sinovac Biotech Ltd.’s Coronavac and Astrazeneca plc-Serum Institute of India’s Covishield – be considered “recognized vaccines.”
