WASHINGTON – The FDA early feasibility/first-in-human studies program now has about five years' history behind it, and by some accounts, the program has been a roaring success. However, one prominent clinician, Marty Leon of Columbia University Medical, said the lack of Medicare coverage for some investigational devices is "a deal breaker" for many applications, some of which address life-threatening disease states.
