Machiel Van Der Leest was named COO of Arterial Remodeling Technologies (Paris). Most recently, Van Der Leest was director of R&D and regulatory affairs at Minvasys. Arterial Remodeling Technologies is developing bioresorbable peripheral and coronary polymer stents that promote the natural remodeling of an injured artery after angioplasty.

Philip Licari was named COO of ConforMIS (Burlington, Massachusetts), joining ConforMIS from NxStage Medical, where he was senior VP and COO. ConforMIS is a privately held company that makes minimally invasive medical devices for the treatment of osteoarthritis and joint damage.

David Thomas was named senior VP of operations of LCA-Vision (Cincinnati). He most recently was COO at Boston Market. LCA-Vision makes laser vision correction services under the LasikPlus brand.

• MPM Capital (Boston) said that Robert Millman, and Elizabeth Stoner, MD, have joined MPM as executive partners. Most recently, Millman was the chief IP counsel for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, while Stoner joined MPM following a 22-year career at Merck Research Laboratories. MPM is a venture capital investor dedicated solely to healthcare.

John Sherwin, PhD, has joined PerkinElmer (Waltham, Massachusetts) as director of laboratory operations for its genetic screening business. Sherwin joins PerkinElmer from the State of California, where he most recently served as acting chief of the Genetic Disease Branch, responsible for the operation of the state's prenatal and newborn screening program. PerkinElmer specializes in health sciences and photonics.

Sam Lee has been promoted to CEO of Prospect Medical Holdings (Culver City, California). Lee served as president of Alta Healthcare System beginning in January 2002 and was appointed as a member of Prospect's board and as CEO of Alta Hospitals System following Prospect's acquisition of Alta. Prospect Medical Holdings manages the medical care of roughly 240,000 HMO enrollees and operates four community hospitals in southern California.

Al Aladwani was named senior VP of operations for Sharps Compliance (Houston). Aladwani previously was VP of operations at Generic Medical Devices. Sharps Compliance makes disposal solutions for small quantity generators of medical waste.
