• Private equity firm The Carlyle Group (San Francisco) reported that it has expanded its venture and growth healthcare team to the San Francisco Bay Area. Ryan Harris, principal, and Rachel Winokur, VP, have relocated from Carlyle’s New York and Washington, DC offices, and will make investments out of Carlyle’s new $605 million venture and growth fund. Harris has been with Carlyle since 2002; Winokur has been with the company since 2007.
• Molecular Biometrics (Chester, New Jersey) reported that Denny Sakkas, PhD, associate professor, Yale University School of Medicine, and director of the embryology laboratory at Yale Fertility Center, has joined the company as chief scientific officer. Molecular Biometrics is a private company developing diagnostic tools for characterizing biologic function in health and disease.
• Swati Awsare, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Pacific Partners Management Services (PPMSI; Foster City, California). Awsare formerly was medical director for San Francisco Health Plan. PPMSI develops managed care information technology providing contracting, financial, administrative and medical management services and software.
