Joel Weinstein has been named VP of global marketing and sales for BioSphere Medical (Rockland, Massachusetts). Previously, Weinstein was VP of marketing and business development for Hologic. BioSphere uses bioengineered microspheres to treat uterine fibroids, hypervascularized tumors, and vascular malformations by a minimally invasive procedure called embolotherapy.

• Clinical Data (Newton, Massachusetts) reported the PGxHeath divisional appointments of Meeta Patnaik, MD, as senior VP of predictive diagnostics development, and Marcia Lewis, PhD, as VP of biomarker development. Patnaik was most recently the chief medical officer of Lipomics Technologies. Lewis was most recently the senior director of oncology programs at Celera. Clinical Data makes targeted therapeutics and predictive tests using its portfolio of proprietary genetic biomarkers.

Christopher Kemp, PhD, has been named VP of R&D fro HepaLife Technologies (Boston). Kemp founded Kemp Biotechnologies in 1992, subsequently acquired in 2006 by Pelican Life Sciences. HepaLife Technologies is a developer of cell-based medical technologies addressing prevalent human health concerns.

Matthew Walker has been named executive VP of business development and marketing for ResearchPoint (Austin, Texas). Walker joined ResearchPoint from Hart InterCivic. ResearchPoint is a private contract research organization serving the medical device, biotech and pharma industries.

Michael Huggins has been named president/CEO of Scient’x (New York). Huggins was previously president of Global Synthes Spine. Scient’x makes spine surgical implants distributed in over 50 countries.
