• Henry Schein (Melville, New York) reported the appointment of Michael Racioppi to senior VP and chief merchandising officer, a newly created position. Assuming Racioppi’s previous position as president of Henry Schein’s medical group will be David McKinley, currently president of Henry Schein practice solutions. Henry Schein says that its four business groups — dental, medical, international and technology — serve more than 500,000 customers worldwide, including dental practices and laboratories, physician practices and veterinary clinics.

• Hillenbrand Industries (Batesville, Indiana) reported two promotions for its Hill-Rom subsidiary, which manufactures medical technologies and provides related services for healthcare. Jeff Kao will assume new responsibilities as president of North America Acute Care, and Greg Tucholski has been promoted to the position of president of International and Surgical. Kao has been with the company since 2007. Tucholski has been with Hill-Rom since 2003.

• Porter Novelli Life Sciences (San Diego) has named Lynne Brum to the position of executive VP in the agency’s Boston office. Brum joined Porter from Vertex Pharmaceuticals where she was VP of strategic communications. Porter Novelli is a life science-based public relations firm.

Sebastian Pacios, MD, has been named senior VP of clinical operations at PPD (Wilmington, North Carolina) for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining PPD, Pacios co-founded a regional contract research organization. PPD is a contract research organization providing discovery, development and post-approval services as well as compound partnering programs.

Kieran Gallahue has been named president/CEO of ResMed (San Diego). Gallahue succeeds company founder Peter Farrell, who will continue serving as executive chairman of the board. Gallahue has been president of ResMed Global since Sept. 7, 2004, and currently is a member of the board of Volcano. ResMed makes medical equipment for the treatment and management of sleep-disordered breathing and other respiratory disorders.

John McDonough was named CEO of T2 Biosystems (Cambridge, Massachusetts). Most recently, McDonough was president of Cytyc Development. T2 Biosystems makes portable medical diagnostic products which combine nanotechnology and miniaturized MRI technology.

Frederic Goldstein has been named president/CEO and director of U.S. Preventative Medicine (USPM; Dallas). Goldstein is currently president/CEO of USPM’s disease management subsidiary, U.S. Care Management. USPM is building the first health network in the U.S. and internationally focused on prevention.

Benjamin Colman has been named senior VP for strategy and development of Women’s Health USA (Avon, Connecticut). Most recently, Colman was a second VP at The Travelers in the Commercial Lines Division. Women’s Health bills itself as the largest physician practice management company in the country dedicated to women’s health professionals.
