Jeff Leiden has been promoted to managing director of Clarus Ventures (Cambridge, Massachusetts). Leiden joined Clarus Ventures in Nov. 2006 as partner from Abbott Pharmaceuticals where he was a president and COO. Clarus is a life sciences venture capital firm.

Matthew Tilley has been named VP of U.S. sales for SpineVision (San Francisco). Tilley previously was sales manager for Small Bone Innovations. SpineVision specializes in motion preservation and fusion devices for spine specialists.

Richard Nadeau has been named CFO of Sunrise Senior Living (McLean, Virginia). Nadeau has served since July 2007 as a consultant to Sunrise. Sunrise offers a range of personalized senior living services, including care for individuals with Alzheimer's and other forms of memory loss, as well as nursing, rehabilitative and hospice care.

• VNUS Medical Technologies (San Jose, California) reported the resignation of Timothy Marcotte, VP and CFO of finance and administration, effective Oct. 1, to pursue another business opportunity. VNUS said it has begun a search for a new CFO. VNUS makes products for the minimally invasive treatment of venous reflux disease.

Curt Selquist has been named an operating partner of Water Street Healthcare Partners (Chicago). Selquist was a former company group chairman with Johnson & Johnson. Walter Street is private equity firm focused exclusively on the health care.
