A Medical Device Daily

E-Z-EM (Lake Success, New York) reported that the U.S. Army Space & Missile Defense Command has placed the U.S. Defense Department's (DoD) first procurement order of $5.07 million for the company's RSDL personal skin decontamination product.

The company said the order — for both RSDL and training packets — is the first of what it believes will be an ongoing procurement program designed to establish RSDL as the preferred personal skin decontaminant for U.S. war-fighters. Recently, RSDL received Milestone C approval from the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical Biological Defense, a decision clearing the way for procurement by the individual service branches of the DoD.

E-Z-EM describes RSDL as a broad spectrum contamination product intended to remove or neutralize chemical warfare (CW) agents or T2 toxins from the skin. Originally developed for the Canadian Ministry of Defense, RSDL has since been adopted by several military services around the world, E-Z-EM said.

Anthony Lombardo, president/CEO of E-Z-EM, said, "It is noteworthy that RSDL is one of the few products to receive Milestone C approval this year. This speaks highly of both the quality of the product and the professionalism of our RSDL management team during the long evaluation phase."

E-Z-EM is focused on diagnostic imaging of the GI tract. E-Z-EM is also a respected contract manufacturer of specialized liquid products, and has been the exclusive global manufacturer of RSDL since 1996. In April of 2005, E-Z-EM completed the acquisition of all assets associated with RSDL, and now is the product's exclusive worldwide marketer.
