John Niederhuber, MD, is being sworn in today as the director of the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health . Niederhuber will be the 13th director of the NCI in its nearly 70-year history.
Niederhuber is being sworn in at the Masur Auditorium of the NIH campus by Michael Leavitt, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Others on hand to deliver remarks will be Elias Zerhouni, MD, director of the NIH.
Phillip Sharp, MD, of the Center for Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts) will give an extramural perspective on cancer research.
