Affiliated Computer Services (ACS; Dallas), a provider of business process outsourcing and information technology solutions, reported that it has signed a four-year, $100 million contract renewal with the State of Mississippi's Division of Medicaid.

ACS said it will perform fiscal agent operations and program administration including “significant” system development, implementation and management for Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS), eligibility determination, and pharmacy benefits management point-of-sale systems.

Performing fiscal agent operations and program administration since 2001, ACS said it has implemented a “comprehensive and technically advanced solution” which has established Mississippi as a standard of excellence in Medicaid.

Named Envision, its family of systems includes a web-based Medicaid eligibility determination system; a multi-program, HIPAA- compliant MMIS which supports Medicaid and other healthcare programs; pharmacy point-of-sale; drug rebate; a web portal for authorized users to access program data and perform processing functions; enhanced decision support system; fraud-detection systems; and interaction management with the call center; and correspondence management.

In other grants/contracts news: Fonar (Melville, New York) said that its Fonar Upright MRI scanner is “successfully penetrating” the U.S. hospital market, as a sale to a member hospital of a major hospital chain is concluded.

“This is the second sale to a hospital within a month for the Fonar Upright MRI,” said Raymond Damadian, MD, president and founder of Fonar. “We announced earlier this month the sale of the Fonar Upright MRI to the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center Hospital [Bristol, Tennessee]. In addition, a second major hospital chain is currently in active negotiations with Fonar for its first Fonar Upright MRI.”
