On The Go Technologies Group (Concord, Ontario), a multi-industry computer hardware, software and peripherals VAR and systems integrator and corporate multimedia digital service solutions provider, said it has finalized the purchase of Island Corp. (also Concord), a computer hardware and software value added reseller and solutions provider to the North American medical imaging and research markets. On The Go said it paid cash and stock for the company but did not state deal value.

On The Go said Island is its fifth acquisition since October 2003, and that, with its completion, it expects the company revenues to increase by $4 million dollars.

Island offers a diagnostic imaging/IT product line incorporating DICOM storage, security and all viewing needs from a variety of industry vendors. The company's services include DICOM connectivity, data migration, disaster recovery and Linux HPC solutions for scientific research.

United Surgical Partners International (USPI; Dallas) reported that it has reached agreement to acquire ownership in nine surgical centers in the greater St. Louis market from local physicians and SurgCenter Development, a surgery center development company.

Of the nine facilities, four have already been acquired and the other five are under letters of intent. The company said it expects to complete the acquisition of one of these five facilities this month and the four remaining facilities at mid-year.

USPI has ownership interests in or operates 103 surgical facilities. Of the company's 100 domestic facilities, 66 are jointly owned with not-for-profit healthcare systems. The company also operates three facilities in London.

In other dealmaking activity: Radiation Therapy Services (RTS; Fort Myers, Florida), an operator of radiation therapy centers, reported acquiring a single radiation therapy treatment center in Opp, Alabama for about $1.75 million. The center is RTS's second in southeastern Alabama, complementing the company's existing center in Dothan, Alabama, it said.

The company said it plans to implement an intensity modulated radiation therapy program and other advanced technologies at the new facility. The center currently treats about 20 patients per day.

RTS, operating radiation treatment centers primarily under the name 21st Century Oncology, is a provider of radiation therapy services to cancer patients.
