Larry Czapla has been appointed executive vice president and general manager of the Cardiology Division ofAccellent(Brooklyn Park, Minnesota). Accellent established its Cardiology Division headquarters to provide outsource and contract services for cardiac rhythm management, interventional, radiology/cardiology, cardiac surgery and peripheral vascular markets. Accellent provides contract manufacturing and design services to the cardiology, endoscopy and orthopedic markets.

Richard Nye has been named vice president of operations for IntraLase (Irvine, California). Previously, Nye was manufacturing vice president for Tyco Healthcare’s Kendall division. Before that, he held several positions in manufacturing with Mallinckrodt, acquired by Tyco Healthcare in 2001. Intralase makes lasers for a variety of medical applications.

• MacroPore Biosurgery (San Diego) reported the addition of two members to its clinical development team who will be instrumental in completing the development of the company’s medical systems and advancing its stem and regenerative cell therapies for cardiovascular disease into clinical trials. Douglas Arm, PhD, was named vice president of development for regenerative cell technology and will lead the Celution System design and R&D efforts. Kai Pinkernell, MD, was named director of clinical applications for development of the company’s stem and regenerative cell therapies for cardiovascular disease. Pinkernell previously worked as a cardiology fellow at Tulane University Medical Center (New Orleans) and at the German Heart Center (Munich, Germany). MacroPore is focused on the discovery and development of regenerative medicine therapies.
