IGI Inc. of Buena, N.J. announced Wednesday that one of itssubsidiaries has been awarded three new patents based onIGI's (AMEX:IGI) Novasome and Ultrasponge technologies.

The U.S. Patent Office issued Patent No. 5,234,915,"Biodegradable Gel;" Patent No. 5,234,621, "Rinse Free ShampooContaining Cross-Linked Carboxymethylcellulose;" and PatentNo. 5,234,767, "Hybrid Paucilamellar Lipid Vesicles."

The biodegradable gel patent describes a new gel-like complexcarbohydrate prepared by using antibiotics, antifungalcompounds and other complex organic ring structures to cross-link carboxymethylcellulose (CMC).

The shampoo patent covers IGI's "Apply & Dry" shampoo,shaving gel, and body lather product line. These make use ofthe cross-linked CMC biodegradable superabsorbent(Ultrasponge).

The hybrid lipid vesicle patent uses Novasomes thatincorporate small amounts of phospholipids and/or glycolipidsalong with other vesicle components for uses such astransportation of vesicles through membranes or permeation ofthe skin.0909IGI
