PRP Inc. announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Officehas awarded it a broad-based patent, No. 5,185,160, covering avirus-free, freeze-dried platelet derivitive and its use intransfusion to control bleeding.

The Watertown, Mass., company said that the patent alsocovers the methods for producing the platelet derivitive fromfresh or outdated platelets.
