Ivax Corp. said Wednesday that its wholly owned subsidiary,Norton Healthcare Ltd., has entered into an agreement withGlaxo Group Ltd. to jointly develop a device to be used withinhalers.

The device is to be used with metered dose inhalers for thetreatment of asthma and other pulmonary disorders. It isdesigned help asthma sufferers coordinate the activation oftheir inhaler with their inhalation, Miami-based Ivax said.

Norton will receive an initial fee and additional payments forachieving milestones. Upon receipt of regulatory approvals,Norton will supply Glaxo with the device.

Norton retains the right to use the device for its own metereddose inhaler products, which will be marketed in the UnitedKingdom by its subsidiary, Baker Norton Ltd.
