HANA SHAREHOLDERS APPROVE MERGERShareholders at Hana Biologics Inc. on Thursday voted toapprove a merger with privately held Somatix Corp.

Eric Tomlinson, Somatix president and chief executive officer,on Thursday said the cell therapy companies expected to closethe merger today. The merged company, called Somatix Corp.,will be based in Alameda, Calif., and will begin trading on theNASDAQ market on Monday under the symbol SOMA.

The company will engage in cell implant and gene therapyapproaches to the development of therapeutic proteins,focusing on Type 1 diabetes and hemophilia.


TNI Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Rosemont, Ill., has suspended itsclinical study of methionine enkephalin in patients with AIDSRelated Complex (ARC). The study was suspended with theconcurrence of the Food and Drug Administration becausesamples of the drug were testing below labeled potency.
