Lunit raises $61M, prepares for South Korean listing

Lunit Inc. has raised $61 million in a fundraising round, getting it closer to its planned list on South Korea’s Kosdaq. “We will use these funds as working capital to research and develop artificial intelligence (AI) products, as well as developing our global market,” a Lunit spokesperson told BioWorld. Seoul, South Korea-based Lunit secured new investors for this round, including U.S. life science investors Healthquest Capital, Casdin Capital LLC, and The American Cancer Society’s Brightedge fund. Asia Pacific-based global health care investors included Tybourne Capital Management Ltd. and NSG Ventures Pte. Ltd.

Lunit lands two FDA approvals for breast cancer detection AI and chest X-ray triage software

Lunit Inc. has won FDA approvals for the company’s breast cancer detection product Lunit Insight MMG and the triage and notification software Lunit Insight CXR Triage, only days apart. Lunit Insight MMG is an artificial intelligence (AI) product for breast cancer detection from mammography images. Lunit’s second approval is for Lunit Insight CXR Triage, its AI-powered chest X-ray triaging product.

Lunit secures South Korean innovative medical device designation for AI breast cancer detection software

Lunit Inc. won an innovative medical device designation from South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The designation was for Lunit Insight MMG, its commercial artificial intelligence (AI) solution for breast cancer detection from mammography images. The company said that Lunit Insight MMG is now the first medical device of its type to receive the designation, and the company now has its second innovative medical device designation. “All of our commercialized products are now designated innovative medical devices by the MFDS. We will ensure that our Lunit Insight AI products allow medical staff to rapidly and accurately diagnose patients,” said Beomseok Suh, CEO at Lunit.

HONG KONG – Vuno Inc. saw its shares soar on their first day of trading on the Kosdaq board with a $33.4 million IPO. The shares closed at ₩32,150 (US$28.89) on Feb. 26. Vuno had priced the 1.8 million new shares on offer at ₩21,000, exceeding its desired range of ₩15,000 to ₩19,500 and raising ₩37.8 billion, or $33.4 million, to boot.

Other markets that the company targets entering include South America, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, Jussarang Lee, communications manager at Lunit, told BioWorld. Founded in 2013, the Seoul-based company uses artificial intelligence to develop cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.
