Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) secured 5.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines made by Pfizer Inc./Biontech SE and Moderna Inc., officially including the mRNA-based vaccines in the country’s national immunization program on Aug. 5.

Biopharma companies raised $34.89 billion through financings in the first seven months of 2025, including $5.66 billion in July, down from $7.38 billion in June. This year’s total falls short of $74.03 billion in the first seven months of 2024 and more than $80 billion in 2020 and 2021. Infectious disease biopharma stocks bounced back in June and July, with the BioWorld Infectious Disease Index (BIDI) closing July up 4.34%. This marked a sharp reversal from earlier in the year, as the BIDI had dropped 17.83% by the end of April and 21.04% by the end of May.
