Abbott studies show CGM users have fewer hospitalizations

A pair of studies published in Diabetologia demonstrate that use of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) reduces hospitalizations in people with type 1 diabetes and in those with type 2 diabetes who use insulin compared to use of capillary blood glucose monitoring. Abbott Laboratories’s REFLECT real-world studies showed that use of its Freestyle Libre CGMs reduced the severity of cardiovascular conditions associated with diabetes and, consequently, led to fewer in-patient stays.

Investigators at Verve Therapeutics Inc. reported preclinical data on VERVE-102, a GalNAc base editing strategy designed to sustainably inactivate the PCSK9 gene and lower LDL-C in familial hypercholesterolemia.

With positive phase IIa cardiovascular disease results in hand, Marea Therapeutics Inc. said it is ready to move on to a phase IIb study sometime in the second quarter of 2025. MAR-001, a monoclonal antibody targeting the protein coding gene ANGPTL4, produced an up to a 52.5% placebo-adjusted mean reduction in remnant cholesterol and up to a 52.7% placebo-adjusted mean reduction in triglycerides at 12 weeks.
