Med-tech companies secured $2.76 billion across financings 56 transactions in January 2025, up from $1.72 billion in December and $919.99 million in November.

Med-tech companies raised a total of $25.37 billion in financings in 2024, up from $17.68 billion in 2023, though still significantly lower than previous years. The highest year for med-tech financings on record remains 2020, when $59.7 billion was raised.

To say that European investors are optimistic about the outlook for the med-tech sector in 2025 is an understatement. A couple of companies are already listed on public markets, acquisitions have been undertaken and med-tech players with cash-rich balance sheets are on the hunt.

Beta Bionics Inc. kicked off the new year with plans for an initial public offering of 7.5 million shares “as soon as practicable.” Expected to be priced at $14 to $16 per share, the IPO would gross $105 million to $120 million for the insulin delivery device maker.

Brainaurora Medical Technology Ltd. debuted on the Hong Kong stock exchange Jan. 8 with a HK$583.18 million (US$74.93 million) IPO, offering about 181.11 million shares at HK$3.22 per share.

While breakaway AI technologies like OpenAI’s ChatGPT reshaped and boosted many industries, AI also drove major financings for APAC med-techs weathering a wider macroeconomic downturn, with AI-based companies accounting for five out of 11 IPOs tracked on BioWorld’s med-tech IPOs list.

AI-powered drug R&D platform firm Oncocross Co. Ltd. is leading the procession of year-end Korea biotech IPOs this week, pricing an offering of about 11.85 million shares on the Korea Exchange at ₩7,300 each for gross proceeds of ₩85.56 billion (US$59.5 million).

Med-tech firms raised $23.65 billion in financings through November, an increase of 42% from $16.61 billion raised in the first 11 months of 2023. November’s value totaled $919.99 million, down from October’s $1.43 billion and $1.02 billion in September, but up from August's $3.67 billion.

Med-tech companies raised $7.35 billion in the third quarter of 2024, slightly down from $7.49 billion in the second quarter but up from $6.45 billion in Q1. Through the first three quarters of the year, total funding reached $21.28 billion, marking a 48% increase compared to $14.36 billion during the same period in 2023.
