Biosynex acquires Avalun to become European leader in rapid diagnostic testing

PARIS – Biosynex SA signed a binding offer to acquire 100% of the stock in Avalun SAS, a company developing the Labpad in vitro diagnostic device that provides rapid biological test results from small sample volumes. In Europe, Avalun is currently marketing a follow-up test for patients on anticoagulation therapy using antivitamin K agents, and a test for automated antigen detection for COVID-19.

Tecmoled completes initial testing phase for its ultraflexible organic oximeter for neonate care

PARIS – Tecmoled SAS has just completed the initial testing phase for its wireless oximeter. A prototype has been tested over the past four months on 30 healthy subjects, aged 2 to 70 years, to measure oxygen saturation (SpO₂), heart rate and body temperature.

PARIS – Readily3d SA has been awarded just under $600k by the European Union to develop a living model of the pancreas using its Tomolite 3D bioprinting technique. The European program, Enlight, boasts a total budget of $4.4 million provided by the European Innovation Fund 2020.

Microsure raises $3.25M to fund development of its microsurgery robot

PARIS – Microsure BV reported closing a $3.25 million funding round to develop its supermicrosurgery robot, Musa. This series B round was led by Dutch investment agency Invest-NL NV. The other 50% of the funding came from existing Dutch shareholders Brabant Development Agency NV and venture capital partners Innovation Industries Fund, as well as from Ten Cate Investreingsmaatschappij BV.

Their new division, Medical Devices Venture, is designed to help develop startups targeting the health care disciplines of the future that combine technology, machine learning and a platform for collaboration.

Turbulent times ahead for CE mark with EU’s new MDR soon coming into force

PARIS – One month before the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) comes into force in the EU, the European Association of Notified Bodies (Team-NB) has released the results of its latest annual survey. This survey of CE-marked medical devices compiled data from 26 notified bodies who were members of Team-NB at the end of 2020. According to Team-NB’s 2020 survey, a total of 18,784 valid CE certificates had been issued by last year, representing an increase of 35% over 2010.

PARIS – Imageens SAS just raised a $1.4 million seed round to develop its two artificial intelligence (AI) systems in the field of medical imaging in Europe. Its first solution Artfun+, an AI software application, makes it possible to anticipate cardiovascular pathology thanks to new prognostic biomarkers. Its second product is Label, an algorithm which automatically classifies and assesses medical imaging data.

Koelis SAS reported the first successful procedures for its platform in 3D fusion imaging-guided focal ablation of prostate cancer at the Clinique Nantes Atlantis in Saint-Herblain, France. These first procedures take place against the background of a multicenter prospective clinical trial starting on the Koelis platform. This includes eight European urology centers, of which six are in France, with data being stored in a dedicated registry.

PARIS – Roche SAS, the French division of Swiss pharmaceuticals manufacturer Roche Holding AG, has signed a partnership with Unicancer that brings together all the cancer centers in France. They have created Oncodatahub (ODH), the first real-world cancer data platform in France. This makes a set of quality, longitudinal data representative of cancer patient care in France available to all those involved in the health care ecosystem.
