Galactins are a family of glycan-binding proteins associated with various biological processes, including apoptosis, inflammation, fibrosis, angiogenesis, immunomodulation or tumor proliferation.
Galectin-3 (LGALS3) and/or galectin-9 (LGALS9) inhibitors are reported in a Galecto Biotech AB patent as potentially useful for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune disease, fibrosis, cardiovascular, eye, metabolic, cerebrovascular and inflammatory disorders, among others.
Glycomimetics Inc. has identified glycosides acting as galectin-3 (LGALS3) inhibitors reported to be useful for the treatment of cancer, inflammation, thrombosis, cardiovascular disorders, transplant rejection, neurodegeneration, fibrosis and liver diseases, among other disorders.
