With Valneva SE’s accelerated approval from the U.S. FDA for chikungunya vaccine Ixchiq, attention turned to the February 2024 meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which will vote on the product. A single-dose, live-attenuated vaccine, Ixchiq is designed to prevent disease caused by the virus in people 18 and older who are at increased risk of exposure to the bug. Read More

Cargo IPO raises $281M for next generation CAR T-cell therapies

In one of the larger biopharma IPOs in 2023, Cargo Therapeutics Inc. pulled in $281.3 million on Nov. 10, selling 18.75 million shares at $15 each, the low end of its price range. The market debut comes just eight months after the San Mateo, Calif.-based company raised $200 million in an oversubscribed series A round. Read More

October 2023 sets new record with biopharma deal value nearing $45B

October marked a historic milestone for the biopharma industry, with deal values hitting $44.91 billion. It was the highest amount ever recorded by BioWorld, topping a deal value of $42.45 billion in December 2022. While the cumulative value of biopharma deals through Q3 lagged behind the previous year, October’s outstanding value has catapulted this year ahead. In the first 10 months of 2023, deal value reached $175.2 billion, compared to $148.56 billion recorded in the same period in 2022. Read More
