Cue Health Inc. rolled out a same-day, at-home, test-to-treatment program through its Cue Health app for any patient in the U.S. with a positive result from its COVID-19 test. The service includes a virtual, on-demand visit with a health care professional to discuss the test result; a prescription for medication to treat the virus, if appropriate; and home delivery of the medication, typically within hours of the visit. There may be those who believe that artificial intelligence (AI) is suffering from overexposure in the media, but these software algorithms are nonetheless challenging medical professionals in their use of medical diagnostics. A new study showed that an AI algorithm not only bested the sonographer in interpretation of whether cardiac ultrasound was indicative of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), but also that the results were sufficiently vigorous that the reviewing cardiologist couldn’t distinguish between the sonographer’s interpretations and those provided by the algorithm. A research team from Lille University Hospital in France has recently demonstrated that dual-energy computed tomography lung perfusion can provide valuable additional information for standard CT scans by visualizing perfusion changes in systemic sclerosis patients with normal or minimally infiltrated lung parenchyma.
