Timing is everything, we're told, and the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed; Washington) announced a report Feb. 2 taking issue with Medicare's approach to coverage of new technology on the eve of the 2015 new technology add-on payment (NTAP) town hall. The association's press release argued that a new study appearing in Health Affairs "dovetails with another recent study" of private payer coverage for novel technologies, and AdvaMed argued that the net effect of public and private payer reluctance to cover innovative devices is to suppress both innovation and patient access to novel technologies.
