Kenneth Baughman, MD, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston), died last week, when he was struck by a car while out for a morning run. Baughman was attending the American Heart Association (AHA; Dallas) 2009 Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Florida.

In a statement, Clyde Yancy, MD, president of the AHA, said the untimely death saddens the cardiovascular community and leaves a profound sense of loss. "His contributions to cardiology and heart failure were important," writes Yancy. "His legacy as a scholar, investigator, clinician, and gentleman will remain."

Baughman had been at the Brigham and Women's Hospital since 2002 after being recruited to be the director of the advanced heart disease section of the cardiovascular division.
