St. Jude Medical (St. Paul, Minnesota) reported that it will eliminate about 200 U.S. jobs, or a little less than 1.5% of its workforce.

The company said cuts will primarily affect sales, support and service staff. The layoffs will be spread across the U.S.

"The company is focused on maintaining operating discipline and these cuts are a result of spending ... that was above the level prescribed by our operating plan during the second quarter," the company said in a statement.
