The American Society of Transplantation (AST; Mount Laurel, New Jersey) reported that Barbara Murphy, MD, has been installed as the society's president for 2008-2009. Murphy holds the post of Irene and Dr. Arthur M. Fishberg Professor of Medicine and chief of the division of nephrology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York). She chaired the AST's Education Committee in 2003-2004. The AST is an international organization of transplant professionals who are dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplant science and medicine.

Bob Hamilton was named VP of Hamilton Medical (Reno, Nevada). He comes to Hamilton Medical with a financial background and experience with Smith Barney, Citigroup Private Bank, Vanguard and Janus Funds.

Fredrick Clerie has been named VP of quality assurance and regulatory affairs at Illumina (San Diego). Previously, Fredrick was VP of global quality assurance and regulatory affairs for the diagnostics division of Bayer HealthCare, now Siemens Diagnostics. Illumina makes products for the large-scale analysis of genetic variation and biological function.

Jeff Hinton was named executive VP/CFO of MedCath (Charlotte, North Carolina). Previously, he was senior VP/CFO for Matria Healthcare. MedCath specializes in high-acuity healthcare services, predominately the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Ronald Ede was named group VP of international operations for Mindray Medical International (Shenzhen, China). Ede has served as an independent director on Mindray's board and several committees since the company's IPO in September 2006. He will continue to serve on as a director but will not serve on committees that require director independence. Mindray offers products across three primary business segments: patient monitoring & life support products, in vitro diagnostic products and medical imaging systems.

Heidi Allen was named senior VP/general counsel of TeamHealth (Knoxville, Tennessee). Previously, Allen was an assistant U.S. Attorney for 11 years. TeamHealth is affiliated with about 5,900 healthcare professionals who provide emergency medicine, hospital medicine, radiology, teleradiology, urgent care, and pediatric staffing and management services.
