In a Washington roundup item, headlined "Stryker, FDA still hashing out warning letter problems," in the May 19 issue of Medical Device Daily, it was incorrectly stated that Stryker had to pay the Department of Justice $310 million. In fact, Stryker was not required to pay any civil settlement, but agreed to reforms that the other four companies involved in the settlement — Biomet (Warsaw, Indiana); DePuy Orthopaedics (Raynham Massachusetts), a unit of Johnson & Johnson (J&J; New Brunswick, New Jersey); Smith & Nephew (S&N; London); and Zimmer Holdings (Warsaw, Indiana) signed onto, including 18 months of federal monitoring. The four other companies agreed to pay a total of $311 million. MDD regrets the error.
