Orqis Medical (Lake Forest, California), a company developing devices intended to improve cardiac performance through its Aortic Flow Therapy, said it has been issued a U.S. patent titled "Implantable Heart Assist System and Method of Applying Same," which discloses methods and apparatus for intravascular renal perfusion.

"This latest patent is the result of Orqis' aggressive intellectual property strategy to treat the cardio-renal syndrome and improve cardiac performance with less invasive treatment approaches," said Ken Charhut, president/CEO of Orqis. "Orqis is developing a large intellectual property footprint that addresses the treatment gap between medical management and more invasive procedures without ever touching the heart."

Orqis' patent portfolio now includes 15 U.S. patents and 26 international patents in more than 20 countries, the company said.
