Concentric Medical (Mountain View, California) said that Maria Sainz has been named president/CEO of the company.

Concentric says that Sainz brings to concentric almost 20 years of experience in the cardiovascular medical technology area. Most recently she was president of the Cardiac Surgery division of Guidant.

Sainz succeeds Gary Curtis, who served as the CEO of the company since July 2002 and who recently decided to step down after 40 years in the medical device industry.

Curtis said, "I am deeply proud of all that we have accomplished at Concentric Medical over the past five-and-a-half-years. Now is the appropriate time to transition to new leadership that will take the company to the next level."

Concentric makes devices for clot removal in patients suffering ischemic stroke.
