• Timothy Adams has resigned as CFO of Orthofix International (Huntersville, North Carolina), effective April 30. Tom Hein, who served as Orthofix's CFO for eight years prior to Adams, and has remained with the company as executive VP of finance, will assume the duties and responsibilities of CFO in the interim period during the company's search for a new CFO. Orthofix International makes minimally invasive surgical, as well as non-surgical, products for the spine, orthopedic, and sports medicine market sectors.
• PPD (Wilmington, North Carolina) reported that Paul Covington, MD, is retiring as executive VP of development and chief medical officer, effective June 30. He will serve as a special project adviser to PPD through January 2009 to assist with selected projects and the transition of his responsibilities. Covington joined PPD in 1991 as medical director and served as senior VP of medical and regulatory affairs and chief safety officer prior to being promoted to his current role in 2002. PPD is a contract research organization providing discovery, development and post-approval services as well as compound partnering programs.
