Representatives of Solvay Advanced Polymers have offered clarification to an MDD story “From Soda ash to polymers – Solvay moves into biomaterials” (Feb. 14, 2008). Mark Wheeler and Shawn Shorrock are on the staff of Solvay Advanced Polymers, not the parent company, Solvay. The company was described as an OEM, but the correct descriptor is “resin supplier.” Shorrock also cited the Biomaterials Access Assurance Act as not a main driver of the company’s entry to the advance polymers business.
