Doug McNeil has been named VP of operations for AOptix Technologies (Campbell, California). Previously, McNeil was VP of Engineering for Visyx. AOptix is a developer of advanced iris recognition and ultra-high-bandwidth laser communication systems.

Mark Mastroianni has been promoted to director of marketing communications and programs in Henry Schein’s (Melville, New York) Medical Division. Mastroianni joined Henry Schein in 2005 as marketing communications manager and privileges manger for the Medical Division. Henry Schein is a provider of healthcare products and services to office-based practitioners.

• Perlegen Sciences (Mountain View, California) named three people to its executive department. Kevin Cooksy was named VP of business development; Julie Brooks, general counsel and corporate secretary; and Brenda Rogers, VP of HR. Cooksy previously was in the corporate development group of Agilent Technologies. Brooks most recently was senior VP of legal and administration, general counsel and corporate secretary at Free & Clear. Rogers most recently was VP of HR at the Institute for OneWorld Health. Perlegen applies re-sequencing and SNP genotyping across the genomes of patients to determine variations associated with given traits of interest.

Thomas Rasmussen has been named VP of clinical affairs for Spectranetics (Colorado Springs, Colorado). Rassmussen most recently was director of clinical research for the cardiac rhythm management division of Boston Scientific. Spectranetics says it makes the only excimer laser approved in the U.S., Europe and Japan for minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures.

• Touch Bionics (Boston) said that it has expanded its sales, marketing, production and design teams. Bill Graham has been named U.S. sales manager for the eastern division; Tim Stevens has been named U.S. sales manager for the western division; Gaurav Mishra has joined as director of international business development, and; Fiona Macintyre has been appointed marketing manager. In addition, Derek Smith has joined Touch Bionics as senior mechanical engineer, while Fred Tatlow has joined the company as a mechanical engineer. Graham most recently worked with Otto Bock; Stevens was previously with GM, Dow Chemicals, and American Home Products (WYeth); Mishra has over ten years senior management experience in diverse areas; Macintyre previously was with Motorola; Smith and Tatlow both previously worked for Polaroid. Touch Bionics manufactures the i-LIMB Hand, which it calls the world’s first commercially available bionic hand.

Leo Cooper has been named executive VP of sales and marketing for Transcend Services (Atlanta). Prior to joining Transcend, Cooper was VP of sales and marketing for White Plume Technologies. Transcend makes medical transcription products.
