• Scott Mahnken has been named director of marketing at Milestone Scientific (Livingston, New Jersey). Mahnken previously was director of partnership relations at ArcMesa Educators. Milestone is the developer of CompuFlo, a computer-controlled, pressure-sensitive infusion, perfusion, suffusion and aspiration technology, which provides real-time readouts of pressures, fluid densities and flow rates, enabling the delivery and removal of fluids.

Naviscan PET Systems (San Diego) said it has appointed Paul Mirabella as chairman of the board, in addition to retaining his responsibilities as president/CEO. Naviscan develops compact, high-resolution PET scanners intended to provide organ-specific imaging and guide radiological and surgical procedures.

• Carl Dieffenbach, PhD, has been appointed director of the Division of AIDS of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID, Washington), a unit of the National Institutes of Health. NIAID supports basic and applied research to prevent, diagnose and treat infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, influenza, tuberculosis, malaria and illness from potential agents of bioterrorism.

• Luis Mostacero has been promoted from VP of finance to CFO at Paradigm Medical Industries (Salt Lake City). Paradigm is a developer of ultrasound, glaucoma diagnostics and management devices.
