Jeffrey Apfelbaum, MD, professor and chairman of the department of anesthesia and critical care at the University of Chicago, was installed as president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA; Park Ridge, Illinois) during this week’s annual meeting of the society in San Francisco.
Apfelbaum, affiliated with University of Chicago Hospital Pritzker School of Medicine, was president-elect of ASA over the past year, first VP in 2005, and chair of various committees of the organization since 1992.
He has served as president of the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists and of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia and is president-elect of the Association of Anesthesiology Program Directors.
