• Mark Chassin, MD, was named president of The Joint Commission (Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois). The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2008. Chassin is the Edmond Guggenheim professor of health policy and chairman of the department of health policy at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (New York), and executive VP for excellence in patient care at Mount Sinai. The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.

• Robert Goldstein was named COO of Shared Health (Chattanooga, Tennessee). Prior to Shared Health, Goldstein served as VP of operations at MDG Medical. Shared Health is a national health information exchange service.
