• Abbott Spine (Austin, Texas) reported two new additions to its staff. Richard Minfelde was named a director of new technologies and product development. Previously, Minfelde was with Spine Vision as director of R&D. Anthony Collias was named international marketing director. Previously, Collias was director of global marketing, vascular therapy for the Sorin Group in Italy. Abbott Spine specializes in spinal implant technology.

• Biogen Idec (Cambridge, Massachusetts) reported today that Peter Kellogg, executive VP of finance & CFO will leave the organization to become CFO at Merck & Co. Kellogg will leave Biogen Idec on Aug. 10. The company will announce its plans regarding the CFO position over the next several weeks. Biogen Idec makes therapies addressing diseases such as lymphoma, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

• Biovail (Toronto) reported that the company’s board has appointed Biovail CEO and board member Douglas Squires interim chairman of the board. At the same time, board member William Wells was appointed as chair of the compensation, nominating and corporate governance committee and lead director. Squires replaces outgoing chairman and company founder, Eugene Melnyk. Biovail specializes in pharmaceutical products using advanced drug-delivery technologies.

Steven Davis was named VP of sales and marketing for Paradigm Medical Industries (Salt Lake City). Paradigm also disclosed that Chuck Pritchard has rejoined the company as domestic sales manager. Pritchard previously worked at Paradigm for eight years and is an expert in ultrasound biomicroscope and blood flow analyzer application and marketing. Paradigm Medical specializes in ultrasound devices for the ophthalmic and medical industries.

Norma Soleno-DeVaney was named the CFO of Vidacare (San Antonio). Soleno-DeVaney most recently was CFO of DocuSource. Vidacare makes intraosseous access technology for multiple diagnostic applications.
