• Clarient (Aliso Viejo, California) reported that effective immediately James Agnello, senior VP and CFO has taken a short-term medical leave of absence from the company. Agnello is expected to make a full recovery and the company's board and management are confident that his responsibilities will be effectively managed during this period. Clarient provides technology and services resource for pathologists, oncologists and the pharmaceutical industry.

• Chip Leveille has been named VP of sales and marketing at Helicos BioSciences (Cambridge, Massachusetts), and Mark Solakian has been named VP and general counsel of Helicos. Leveille served as VP for Affymetrix in three separate capacities: Pharmaceutical Business, Core Technologies Group and Corporate Marketing. Previously Solakian was VP and chief corporate counsel for Affymetrix. Helicos develops genetic analysis technologies for the research, drug discovery and clinical diagnostics markets.

• Jerry Williamson was named executive VP and chief commercial officer of VisEn Medical (Woburn, Massachusetts). Previously Williamson served as president of Biacore. VisEn develops fluorescence molecular imaging technology platforms.
