• Andrew Caudell has been named managing director for Europe, Middle East and Africa of Interventional Spine (Irvine, California). Previously, Caudell was the European sales and marketing director for St. Francis Medical Technologies. Interventional Spine is a privately-held manufacturer focusing on spine diseases.

• Major med-tech firm Smith & Nephew (S&N; London) reported that Sir Christopher O'Donnell will retire as CEO on June 30 and as a director of the company on July 31. O'Donnell joined S&N in 1988 and has been chief executive since 1997. David Illingworth, who has been COO of S&N since February 2006, will be promoted to CEO, effective July 1. Prior to his appointment as COO, Illingworth was president of S&N's orthopedics division.
